ELVIS  WHAT HAPPENED -  Red West/Sonny West/Dave Hebler as told to Steve Dunleavy  - Biography - Published 1977

This is the much talked about book of which Elvis was so affraid of at the end of his life. The bodyguards motive for writing this book was "to give Elvis a challenge". For one thing they were right; Elvis needed a challenge, but this book was published to late, as Elvis passed away in august 1977. I think Elvis would have survived the negative side of this book, for it is way to sensational, and there is no line in the story this book tryes to tell. Only thing the bodyguards do is telling anekdotes making the book worthless as a reference-book, which is in some ways a pitty for those man lived so close with Elvis. So why didn't they came up with a good researched book, not only picking on Elvis his bad sides.? Maybe they just wanted to get even because of the firing in July 1976 grabbing some 'fast' bucks, instead of telling the story of his live?  A more balanced book about Elvis his good and darker parts could have made it a book people would remember. A missed chance, but while writing this book the authors did not know Elvis would die just days after the publishing-date of this book, and it is despite the negative charachter of the book much better than Albert Goldman's piece of trash. At least it gives some, though negative, insight in Elvis' life.
