The first tour of the year
started of without Ronnie Tutt and Glen D. Hardin, and James Burton was
just about to leave. Ronnie Tutt was replaced by Larry Londin, while
Shane Keaster took place behind the Piano. Another new man added to the
band was David Briggs on the electric clarinet, which gives a kind of a
strange sound to this CD, being very prominent on this recording. This
disc contains the seventh show os this particulair tour and Elvis and the
musicians found each other very well. There is a great Steamroller Blues,
a powerfull Polk Salad Annie, with a spotlight on the rythm-section,
especially when they bring down the music at the ending of the number,
where Elvis goes to the ground. Brilliant drumming by Larry Londin.! Elvis
messes up the words of And I Love You So (he needs a start-over for And I
Love You So, claiming 'that's the only way to do it......'.) and Burning
Love, but gives a real fine performance, maybe a bit inspired by all the
new faces in the band. Both versions of Hurt are well performed, and
the ending of America the Beautiful is shivering. Elvis takes his voice at
least one octave up. Nice show in a very good sound. If you don't have
this one get it if you still can find it.! |
