I got a woman is the first
number on this disc, and the energy-level compared to the usual 1976 shows
is much higher. At the end of 1976 things went uphill for Elvis in a long
time, and it first showed at this particular October tour. The voice is
much stronger than displayed in the June/July/August/September tours of
1976. Love me gets the normal treatment, although it seems Elvis puts in
more feeling than the average treatment. A decent If you love me and an
impressive Mountain are next, where after we get Help me. Elvis messes up
the words and needs to restart the song. Nicely sung, but not as good as
in the 1974 concerts. A fair rock 'n' roll medley follows, and a decent
And I Love You So. Steamroller Blues is convincing, but not the coolest
ever as stated on the cover. Time for the band-introductions and some
banter. Unfortunately Love Letters was not recorded complete: it fades
out after 30 seconds, and fades in again for another 80 seconds. Too bad
for this fine rendition. Hurt is next and done very beautifully as usual.
Although he gets a little short on air in the reprise. Self he calls this
a mediocre performance. Hound dog is a throwaway and Elvis concludes the
show with It's now or never, a spontaneous Blue Christmas and the usual
Can't Help Falling In Love. All in all a fine show in good sound, not a
must have but a nice addition to anyones collection. |
