Elvis at The Hilton in
1971; 4th season after his first personal appearance in 1969 still means
Elvis in top-form. Although the critics were not to enthusiast about this
season Elvis gives an energetic show but keeps it very short! There is no
James Burton solo in the opening song 'That's All Right', and 'I Got A
Woman' is set in without a word. After this song Elvis greets the audience
and starts 'Love Me Tender'. After this song Elvis talks a little (stating
he's got the flew) and sings 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me'. 'Sweet
Caroline' is next followed by a very short 'You've Lost That Lovin'
Feeling'. There are only two couplets, the 'Baby Baby, I Get Down On My
Knee's For You' part missing. 'Polk Salad Annie' has the Jerry Sheff
bass-solo, starting to get in the Elvis On Tour-shape. Brought very well
by the way. Then it's time for the band-introductions, some oldies and 'Something',
whereafter we arrive at the highlight of this release; 'Snowbird'. After 2
false starts the band and Elvis got it together, and perform a very fine
rendition of this song. Real rare gem.! On the inlay the 2001-label states
it is the only known soundboard-recording featuring this song. The show
closes with an inspired 'The Impossible Dream', where the sound fades out
2 times. All in all a very strong release for there ain't to much around
covering this era and in pretty good sound, although you can't compare the
sound to the 1974-1977 released boots. |
